Hawks Sweep Joliet on Magical Sophomore Night

Palatine, IL: It was a magical Sophomore night at Harper College. Coach Bob Vilsoet has to say goodbye to 5 extra-special Sophomores… Setter Phoebe Kim, Middle Hitter Mira Tchohadjieva, Libero Brianna Van Dyke, Defensive Specialist Oliwia Bardo, and Outside Hitter Ahlstedt.

Note- setter Phoebe Kim started the night 250 assists shorts of Harper's career assists leader who is Katelyn Sommers with 2,802 career assists way back in 2015 and the national championship 2016 seasons.

The first set started out slow for Harper with tie scores at 2-2, 3-3, 5-5, 6-6, 7-7. Harper fell behind 8-11, but then tied the score 11-11 on 4 Ahlstedt toppers. More ties at 12-12, 14-14 and 15-15, but Harper went on a 10-1 run to win 25-16. Ali Pierre was hot with 5 kills on 67 attacks and a block. Ahlstedt added 4 kills. 

In the second set, Harper started out tied at 2-2, then took a 6-2 lead behind 5 more Ahlstedt toppers. Harper continued to lead 13-6, then 17-10 and won 25-16. Jocelyn Erling picked up the flames with 5 kills. Jada Hoyt had 2 kills and 2 blocks, and some more rejections.

In the third set, there were ties again at 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 5-5, 6-6, but then Harper took an 8-6 lead behind a Tchohadjieva smash… then 16-10 and 17-12 behind another Tchohadjieva smasharoni. Tchohadjieva served up an ace to extend the lead to 20-16, and Harper won 25-19. Erling added 4 more kills… Pierre added 3 kills, Ziya Cooks had 3 kills on 5 attacks and a block, and Tchohadjieva had 4 kills on 5 attacks. Setter Kim added 13 assists for 33 assists for the match.  Lets see, 250 minus 33 = 217 assists to go…
