Hawks Capture 18th Region 4 Championship Title at Settler’s Hill

Batavia, IL: The Harper men's cross country team reclaimed its place atop Region 4, winning the 2025 Region 4 Championship on Saturday at the Settler's Hill Cross Country Course in Batavia. The victory marks the Hawks' 18th regional title in program history. Joliet Junior College finished as the runner-up, and College of DuPage, last year's national champions, took third.

Conditions were ideal for racing, with cool temperatures and light winds setting the stage for a competitive meet. Joliet's Nathan Ciarlette, the defending NJCAA DIII National Champion, lived up to expectations by winning the individual title in 26:48. The Hawks, however, controlled the scoring pack right behind him. Ryan Golden and Sebastian Welc finished second and third, continuing their stellar freshman campaigns and securing key low points for Harper and All-Region honors.

Rounding out the top five and earning All-Region honors were Joliet's Gavin Carlson (4th) and DuPage's Adriano Quintero (5th). Harper's Jerome Graessle followed closely in sixth, capping off an impressive season of steady improvement. Ethan Waddell, who had been one of Harper's top four all year, battled through a tough race to finish ninth, while Michael Johnson rounded out the Hawks' scoring in 12th.

Behind them, RJ Moniri, Nate Larsen, and Sean Burke all contributed strong efforts. Moniri nearly set a personal best, and Burke continued his steady improvement, dropping time in each of his races this season.

Despite DuPage missing projected top-10 runner Jack Schultz, the field was tightly contested from start to finish, signaling an exciting rematch ahead. With Region 4 sweeping the top three team spots in the nation last season, the upcoming NJCAA DIII National Championship promises another high-stakes battle among familiar rivals.

The Hawks will now turn their focus to Fort Dodge, Iowa, where they'll look to turn their regional success into national glory at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in two weeks.
