Hawks Battle Through Nine Grueling Sets at MATC Tri

Milwaukee, WI: The Harper volleyball team faced one of its toughest tests of the season on Saturday at Reiman Gymnasium, taking on Region 4 powerhouses Morton and Milwaukee in a grueling Tri-Match. The Hawks went toe-to-toe with both programs, pushing Morton to a thrilling five-set battle before falling just short, and later dropping a competitive four-set match to host Milwaukee. Despite the results, Harper showed grit and endurance across nine hard-fought sets that highlighted the team's depth, resilience, and competitive fire.

The first match was against Morton College who is at the top of Region 4 at 16-0, and 24-4 overall. Harper lost this 5-set instant classic…  25-15, 19-25, 25-14, 12-25, and 13-15. The second match was against Milwaukee who was 17-6 in Region 4, and 27-10 overall. Milwaukee played their seniors and lost 25-20, but then won the next three 22-25, 18-25, and 21-25. This was 9 hard-fought physical and emotional sets in a row of high-level volleyball.

Lost 2-3 to Morton (25-15, 19-25, 25-14, 12-25, 13-15)
The first set started out close with ties at 2-2, 5-5, 6-6, and 12-12. Harper took a slim lead 13-12 and extended to 17-15 on a
Mira Tchohadjieva smash, and then 19-15 before winning 25-15. Ali Pierre and Lauren Ahlstedt each had 3 kills. Ana Kadolph went on a run with 9-9 serving with 3 aces.

The second set was almost an exact replica, the other way around, with ties at 7-7, 10-10, 11-1 and 14-14, before Morton took a 14-19 lead, and won 19-25. This time
Ahlstedt and Jocelyn Erling each had 3 kills.

The third set was lopsided when Harper had leads of 9-3, 10-4, 12-7, 18-8, 20-12 before winning 25-14.
Erling got loose for 6 kills, and Pierre had 3 kills. Erling was also 9-9 serving, and Raegan Frappier was 7-7 serving.

The fourth set was almost the exact opposite, again… The score was tied at 4-4, but Harper lost 8 points in a row, 4-12, then 7-16, 8-18 and a 12-25 loss. On to the deciding set 5!
Jada Hoyt joined Erling and Ahlstedt, each with 3 kills in this set.

In the last set, Harper took a 4-0 lead behind
Frappier's serves, but Morton tied it up instantly at 4-4. Harper led 8-4 at the switch, and then 10-7. Morton closed the gap 10-8, 11-9, 11-10 and tied it at 11-11, 12-12, and 13-13. At 13-13 Morton made an incredible save for a point, led 13-14 and won 13-15. Amazing finish. Erling paced Harper with 3 kills and a block.

Lost 1-3 to MATC (25-20, 22-25, 18-25, 21-25)
First set started out tied at 2-2 and 8-8… Harper took a slim 14-11 lead, and extended to 17-12 and 18-13, and 21-14 before winning 25-20.

In set four, the score was level again at 8-8, 9-9, 10-10, and 11-11, before Harper took a 15-11 lead. But Milwaukee closed the gap to 17-17. Harper took a 20-17 lead behind
Erling's serving, but Milwaukee tied the score again at 21-21, and took a 21-23 lead. Harper was called for a net violation on a kill, so instead of pulling to 22-23, Harper was down 21-24 before losing 22-25. Erling had 3 kills. Frappier was 6-6 serving with 2 aces.
