Hawks Outlast DuPage in Four-Set Battle

Palatine, IL: For the last several years, it seems like it's always a war between Harper Volleyball and College of DuPage. Tonight's battle was no different.

In the first set, Harper started out slow, made too many fatal errors, and just could not catch up 0-4, 5-10, 10-15, 16-20 and lost 19-25.
Jocelyn Erling led Harper with 5 kills and a block. Lauren Ahlstedt had 3 kills. Brianna Van Dyke had 8 digs in this set.

Set two was much closer, with ties at 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, and 6-6, before Harper grabbed a 12-7 lead.  Harper extended the lead 17-12. However, COD leveled the score quickly to 18-18.  Harper took a 19-18 lead on a
Erling kill; and 24-18 on a highlight dig from Raegan Frappier before a 25-18 win. Ahlstedt had 3 kills; Erling had 3 kills and a block, and was 7-7 serving. Ana Kadolph had 6 digs.

In the third set, there were ties at 3-3, 4-4 and 6-6. Harper fell behind 6-10 and continued to trail by 4 point margins up to 15-19. Harper pulled close with a kill from
Ahlstedt to make it 20-22;  then 21-23 on a Kylie Chojnowski kill;  and 22-23 on a superb Van Dyke dig followed by another Chojnowski kill. A Erling kill made it 23-24; and another Erling kill tied the score, 24-24. Ali Pierre tooled the blockers for a 25-24 lead and then Harper won this pivotal 3rd set 26-24, and took a 2-1 lead in this close match. Erling had 5 kills; Chojnowski and Mira Tchohadjieva provided additional offense with 3 kills each. Pierre was 5-6 serving and 3 aces. Kadolph added 8 digs.

In the 4th set, Harper started out playing well at 3-0, but of course College of DuPage tied the score immediately at 3-3 and 4-4.  Harper took the lead 8-4 behind
Frappier's serves, then 14-11 on a Chojnowski kill, and 15-11 on a Kadolph ace. Harper extended to 19-15 on a Erling ace;  20-17 on a Ahlstedt tip and 22-19 on a Ahlstedt kill… and a 25-20 win on a Chojnowski kill on a back row touch. Chojnowski closed this set and match with 5 kills all on her last 6 attacks. Ahlstedt had 4 kills. Tchohadjieva had 3 kills. Kadolph was 8-8 serving with an ace and 4 digs.
