Hawks Earn First Win of the Season Behind Hot Shooting and Tough Defense

Palatine, IL: The Harper women's basketball team earned its first win of the season Tuesday night, defeating Bryant & Stratton 65–62 at home. The Hawks set the tone early with a fast start and a strong defensive effort that carried them through a tight finish.

Harper came out firing in the first quarter, racing to a 20–4 lead before the Bobcats closed on a 9–0 run to stay within reach. Bryant & Stratton kept the momentum in the second quarter, cutting the Hawks' lead to just two points at halftime, 33–31. The third quarter was even at 15–15, and Harper held off the Bobcats in the fourth, edging them 17–16 to seal the win.

The Hawks' defense was disruptive all night, recording 18 deflections and 12 steals to keep Bryant & Stratton off balance. The difference in the game came from beyond the arc, where Harper shot 30 percent compared to the Bobcats' 22 percent.

Hailey Franczkowski led the Hawks with 20 points, hitting 6 of 13 three-point attempts in an efficient performance. Ariana Buss added 18 points, knocking down four threes while also contributing 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals, and a block.

On the boards,
Kinsley Stillman and Xzandria Turner were dominant with 14 and 12 rebounds, respectively. Gabriella Swanson battled through early foul trouble but still pulled down 8 rebounds to anchor the paint.

The win showcased Harper's defensive grit and growing confidence as the team continues to find its rhythm. The Hawks will look to build on this momentum when they travel to face Elgin Community College on Thursday.
