Hawks Fall at Elgin in 7 Point Game

Elgin, IL: The Hawks women's basketball team played with energy and competitiveness on the road Thursday but ultimately fell 58-51 to Elgin Community College in a Region 4 matchup. Harper, now 1-5 on the season, showed continued improvement in effort and cohesion as the team inches closer to a full identity. 

The Hawks stayed close early and traded baskets with the Spartans through all four quarters. Harper scored 12 in the first, 13 in the second, 13 in the third, and 13 in the fourth, finishing with a total of 51 points in a hard-fought contest. Elgin led by a slim margin at halftime, 30-25, and maintained that advantage over the final two periods. 


Ariana Buss led Harper's offensive attack with 17 points on 5-of-12 shooting and connected twice from three-point range. She also contributed 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and a team-high 4 steals. Kinsley Stillman scored 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, anchoring the glass and giving the Hawks a strong interior presence. Marque Taylor added 12 points with 4 rebounds and 4 steals, showcasing her activity on both ends. 

Hailey Franczkowski provided 10 points, including three three-pointers, while Gabriella Swanson worked inside for 3 points and 13 rebounds. Xzandria Turner contributed with hustle plays, finishing with rebounds and defensive effort. Harper finished the game shooting 33.3 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from three, while converting 47.4 percent of her free throws. 

The Hawks showed sharper ball movement and defensive intensity throughout the game, forcing turnovers and creating transition opportunities. Although the final result did not go their way, Harper's competitiveness in a tough road environment demonstrated growth from earlier in the season.
