Hawks Show Growth in Season Opener Against Oakton

Palatine, IL: The Hawks women's basketball team opened its 2025–26 season with an 84–36 loss to Oakton on Friday night, but the Hawks showed clear improvement from last year's meeting with the Owls. Despite the score, Harper's effort, energy, and execution reflected a team continuing to grow under head coach Mari Neberieza.

Sophomore forward Gabriella Swanson led the Hawks with 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting while also grabbing seven rebounds. Freshman guard Marque Taylor added 10 points, six rebounds, and three assists, making an early impact in her collegiate debut.

Harper trailed 35–19 at halftime and continued to battle throughout the second half. The Hawks shot 25 percent from the field but worked to create better looks and stay active on both ends. On the glass, Harper collected 27 rebounds while Oakton finished with 52.
