Hawks Come Up Just Short in Heartbreaker vs MCC

Palatine, IL: The Hawks women's basketball team battled until the final possession Tuesday night at Hawks' Fieldhouse but fell 56-54 to McHenry County College in a tightly contested Region 4 matchup. Harper pushed the Scots throughout and had opportunities late in the game to pull out a win in a matchup that came down to every possession. 

Harper held a 13-12 advantage after the first quarter and stayed close through most of the first half. McHenry County took a narrow 30-25 lead into halftime and extended the margin slightly in the third quarter, but the Hawks kept fighting. Harper trimmed the deficit in the fourth and had the ball in position for a late chance before McHenry held on for the two-point win. 

Hailey Franczkowski led the Hawks with 14 points, going 4 of 14 from the field and drilling 4 of 13 from three-point range while adding 5 rebounds. Ariana Buss scored 16 points on 5 of 15 shooting and 2 of 8 from beyond the arc, also contributing 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Gabriella Swanson finished with 5 points and 7 rebounds, and Kinsley Stillman added 5 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals in a strong defensive effort. Zariela Myles posted 7 points and 4 rebounds, and Marque Taylor added 4 points and 6 rebounds for the Hawks. Xzandria Turner contributed 3 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals, showcasing her all-around impact. 

Harper finished 19 of 73 (26.0 percent) from the field and 7 of 34 (20.6 percent) from three-point range, converting 9 of 17 free throws on the night. The Hawks also battled on the glass with 35 total rebounds in the contest.
