Hawks Shrink Deficit in Second Waubonsee Matchup

Palatine, IL: The Hawks women's basketball team hosted Waubonsee Community College Thursday and battled through four quarters but came up short in a 70-57 loss. The Chiefs built a lead early and maintained control, while Harper competed with energy and had standout individual efforts that will serve the team moving forward.

Waubonsee jumped out to a 25-6 first-quarter lead, forcing Harper to fight back in the middle quarters. The Hawks responded by outscoring Waubonsee 18-14 in the second and 22-11 in the third, trimming the deficit and keeping the game within reach heading into the fourth. Despite outscoring Waubonsee in the second half, Harper could not overcome the early gap and fell by 13 points.


Kinsley Stillman led the Hawks with 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting and secured 12 rebounds in a strong all-around performance. Marque Taylor added 12 points,4 rebounds, and 4 assists, continuing her leadership on both ends. Gabriella Swanson battled inside for 8 points and 16 rebounds, anchoring the frontcourt effort. Ariana Buss provided 12 points, including a made three-pointer, and finished with 7 assists and 3 steals, showcasing her playmaking ability.

Hailey Franczkowski contributed 5 points, hitting a three, while Zariela Myles added 4 points and 3 steals in nearly 33 minutes of action. Freshman guard Ali Pierre chipped in 3 points in her time on the floor. Harper finished the game 27 of 59 (45.8 percent) from the field, 3 of 12 (25 percent) from three, and 2 of 6 (33.3 percent) from the free throw line. Waubonsee shot 30.3 percent from the floor and 36 percent from three while converting 7 of 12 free throws.

Harper's second half showed resilience and progress as the Hawks tightened their defense and gained momentum. Although the final result did not favor Harper, the team's fight and improved execution throughout the game reflect the Hawks' continued growth.
