Hawks Battle Stormers, Split Doubleheader

Palatine, IL: The Hawks continued Region 4 play on Wednesday with a doubleheader against the MATC Stormers, looking to stay perfect through six games. The Hawks' offense exploded in Game 1, powering their way to a dominant 15-7 victory. However, Game 2 was a different story, as Harper found themselves in a low-scoring battle, ultimately falling just short in a 2-1 defeat. With the split, the Hawks move to 5-1 on the season as they continue their strong start.

Game 1: Hawks' Offense Explodes
The Hawks' bats were in full force in the opener, racking up 15 runs behind stellar plate discipline and clutch hitting. Harper fell behind 3-0 early but responded in a big way, showcasing their offensive depth and resilience.

Dominic Jacoby was unstoppable at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four singles, two walks, and two RBIs. He accounted for 20% of Harper's runs, consistently finding ways to get on base and create scoring opportunities. Joey Glozier led the team with three RBIs, while Spencer Geake and Alex Tabbert each drove in two. The Hawks' patience at the plate played a major role in their success, as they worked 14 walks to keep the pressure on MATC's pitching staff.

On the mound, lefty
Ethan Dorka made his season debut and earned the win, settling in after the early deficit. With strong run support behind him, the Hawks cruised to a commanding victory, proving they can win in different ways—even when playing from behind.

Hawks Come Up Just Short in Pitching Duel
After an offensive explosion in Game 1, the Hawks found themselves locked in a pitchers' duel in the second matchup of the doubleheader. Despite strong performances on the mound, Harper couldn't break through late, falling 2-1 for their first loss of the season.

Nick Drtina got the start for the Hawks, allowing just two runs over four solid innings. Geake came on in relief and shut down the Stormers' offense, tossing two scoreless frames to keep Harper within striking distance.

Offensively, the Hawks struggled to find a timely hit against a dominant Michael Merline. Their best chance came in the top of the seventh, when they put runners on second and third with the game on the line. However, the Stormers held firm, escaping the jam to secure the narrow win.

Despite the loss, the Hawks showed grit in a hard-fought battle, proving they can compete in both high-scoring games and low-scoring duels.

While the Hawks' undefeated run may have come to an end, their strong start to the season signals even bigger things ahead.
Coach Milano's squad has been firing on all cylinders, showing they can win in a variety of ways—whether by overpowering opponents with their offense or grinding through tight pitching battles.

As the weather warms up, so does Harper's schedule. The Hawks will look to stay hot with their true home opener tomorrow against Lake County at Hawks Field before hitting the road for matchups against Triton on Friday and Black Hawk on Saturday. With a 5-1 record and plenty of confidence, Harper is poised to keep making noise in Region 4.
