Hawks Take Down Lancers in Home Opener

Palatine, IL: The Hawks made history on Wednesday afternoon, winning their first true home opener at Hawks Field since 2012 with a 6-4 victory over the Lake County Lancers. With the win, Harper improves to 6-1 under Coach Milano, continuing their strong start to the season.

Pitching led the way for the Hawks, as starter
Zach Zalewski was dominant over five innings, allowing just one hit and one unearned run to pick up the win. Daniel Broeker sealed the deal in the ninth, earning the save in a game where every run mattered.

Offensively, the Hawks were efficient despite recording just five hits.
Dominic Jacoby and Spencer Geake each had two, while Anthony Milano added one of his own. Geake provided the team's only extra-base hit with a double. While the bats weren't overwhelming, Harper's aggressive baserunning made all the difference, as the team swiped eight bases on the day.

Both teams struggled defensively, with Harper committing five errors and Lake County three, but the Hawks stayed composed and found ways to capitalize on their opportunities. It wasn't their cleanest performance, but they did enough to secure a home win and keep their momentum rolling.

The Hawks now turn their attention to a tough road stretch, with three straight away games against Triton on Friday, Black Hawk on Saturday, and a rematch with Lake County in Grayslake next Wednesday.
