Hawks Stay Perfect with Win Over Chiefs

Wheeling, IL: The Hawks kept their undefeated streak alive, improving to 4-0 with a 9-7 victory over Waubonsee in their home opener at Heritage Park in Wheeling. Strong early offense and solid pitching set the tone, as Harper built a comfortable lead before holding off a late Chiefs rally.

Mason Hulligan was sharp on the mound, earning his second win of the season. The right-hander struck out five over three innings, keeping Waubonsee's bats in check while the Hawks' offense got to work early.

Harper wasted no time jumping on the Chiefs, loading the bases in the bottom of the first with two walks and a single.
Joey Glozier delivered a two-run single, scoring Michael Mango and Dominic Jacoby. Nick Drtina later came home on a passed ball, and Spencer Geake capped off the inning with an RBI triple to put the Hawks ahead 4-0.

The teams traded runs over the next few innings, bringing the score to 5-3 before Harper broke the game open in the fifth. Once again, patient at-bats led to walks and timely singles, producing three more runs. The Hawks tacked on another in the sixth to extend their lead to 9-3.

Waubonsee made things interesting in the ninth, capitalizing on a few defensive miscues to plate four runs. However, the Hawks managed to shut the door before the comeback could materialize, securing the 9-7 win.

With their best start in over two decades, Harper continues to showcase improved pitching, timely hitting, and an opportunistic offense. The Hawks will look to keep the streak going as they continue against MATC tomorrow at 2:30.
