Hawks Earn First Wins of Season at Arrowhead-Skyway Clash

Ottawa, IL: The Hawks broke through in a big way this weekend at the Arrowhead-Skyway Clash in Ottawa, earning their first two wins of the season before dropping a pair of competitive games to close the tournament. Harper finishes the weekend 2-2, moving to 2-12 overall as they head into a big week of home matchups.

The weekend started on a high note Saturday morning with a dominant 7-0 shutout of Morton.
Taylor Nicholsen was lights out in the circle, striking out six in a complete-game effort. Samantha Sok gave the Hawks an early jolt with a three-run inside-the-park home run in the first inning. Nicholsen also doubled, while Brianna Linnemann and Gabriella Phillis each tallied two hits to pace the offense.

The momentum rolled into Saturday afternoon as Harper edged out Elgin in a thrilling 11-10 victory.
Meghan Meyer got the win on the mound, also striking out six over seven innings. At the plate, Nicholsen exploded for five RBIs, including a key double, to lead the Hawks. Sok, Amanda Ban, and Sophia Cobos each added two hits as Harper put together its highest-scoring game of the season.

Sunday brought tougher results, starting with a narrow 6-4 loss to McHenry.
Nicholsen returned to the mound, keeping the Hawks in the game throughout. Offensively, Harper continued to flash power with three extra-base hits—Linnemann tripled, while Destiny Nino and Gabriela Ward each ripped doubles.

The weekend closed with an 11-3 loss to Oakton as the Hawks, playing their fourth game in two days, ran out of steam.
Meyer started in the circle again, but the bats couldn't keep pace. Ward added a double, and Nino chipped in with two singles, though the offense was limited to just four additional base hits.

Despite the Sunday setbacks, the Hawks' performance over the weekend was a big step forward. With two wins under their belt and the offense heating up, Harper returns home this week for three games—Waubonsee on Wednesday, a showdown with #9 ranked Rock Valley on Friday, and Kishwaukee on Saturday.
