Hawks Sweep Pioneers Behind Pitching and Speed

Palatine, IL: The Hawks secured a doubleheader sweep over the Prairie State Pioneers on Friday, winning 5-4 in extra innings and 3-1 in the nightcap. Fueled by late-inning heroics, steady pitching, and aggressive base running, Harper improved its record with a strong all-around performance at home.

In game one,
Ethan Dorka pitched seven solid innings before turning it over to Evan Fahey, who earned the win in relief. Down 4-2 entering the bottom of the seventh, the Hawks rallied for two runs to tie it, then walked it off in the bottom of the eighth on a single from Dominic Jacoby. Despite not recording an extra-base hit, the Hawks strung together seven singles and swiped four bases. Alex Tabbert led the team with two RBIs, while Spencer Geake, Michael Mango, Kevin Geake, and Connor Kave each added a stolen base.

Game two was another display of clutch pitching and small-ball execution.
Zach Zalewski went the distance, striking out five over seven innings to earn his fourth win of the year. The Hawks once again tallied seven hits—all singles—and added five more stolen bases, this time with contributions from Geake, Tabbert, Mango, Kave, and Jacoby.
