Harper Drop First, Defeat Triton in 4 Sets

Palatine, IL: The first set featured 7 missed serves from Harper, which kept the score really close. There were ties at 3-3, 5-5, 8-8…, 14-14, 15-15…, 21-21, and 23-23 when Harper missed its 7th serve of the set, then Harper hit an attack into Triton's bench to finish off the first set loss. Jocelyn Erling had 4 kills; Jada Hoyt had 3 kills and one bench shot. Mira Tchohadjieva served 6 of 7 with an ace. Selin Hurdogan had 7 digs.

The second set went much better - if you to ask Harper…  Harper started with the lead at 4-0.  Triton kept it close at 11-10 and 12-11.  Then Harper blew the set open at 22-14 and then a 25-14 win. Harper only missed 2 serves in this set. "There's that."  Erling had 4 more kills; Hoyt had a kill and 4 rejections including 2 block-kills. Hurdogan was 9 of 9 serving with 2 aces and added another 6 digs.

The third set was much the same, with only 2 missed serves… "There's that," again.  Harper jumped out to a 7-0 lead when Harper missed its first serve, then extended to 13-2, 16-9 and a 25-12 win. Destiny Parsons entered the match and the stat sheet with 3 kills. Lauren Ahlstedt moving to the right side swung 3 times for 3 kills. Hurdogan was 9 of 9 serving again with another 2 aces. Erling was 7-8 serving and 2 aces. Setter Phoebe Kim had 5 digs; Tchohadjieva had 4 digs.

The final set was much closer… Harper started out with a 7-3 lead and extended to 10-5, and 19-14.  Triton closed the gap a bit to 20-18, but Harper finished this set with a 25-19 win. Hoyt continued her excellence with 3 more kills on 3 swings and another 3 rejections including a block-kill and was 5-6 serving with 3 aces. Tchohadjieva had 3 kills on 3 attacks.

Friday, August 29/30, Harper Volleyball is near Toledo, Ohio (actually Perrysburg) to play Southwestern Michigan, Oakland, St. Clair and Edison State, all tough D2 opponents.
