Hawks Fly Past Moraine Valley

Palatine, IL: Harper Volleyball overcame an early 0-3 deficit to tie the opening set at 3-3, then surged ahead with a 9-4 run. Harper Volleyball extended the lead to 21-16. Moraine Valley narrowed the gap late, but Harper held on to win the set 25-22. Kylie Chojnowski and Ali Pierre both led Harper with 5 kills and a block each. Lauren Ahlstedt added 4 kills. Raegan Frappier was 7-7 serving with an ace. Brianna Van Dyke was 6-6 serving and 6 digs. Ana Kadolph was 6-6 serving with an ace, and had 10 digs!

The second set had 5 tie scores up to 7-7.
Ahlstedt's ace tied the score again at 9-9. Ahlstedt served another ace to take an 11-9 lead. Harper Volleyball stretched the lead to 18-13. Although Moraine Valley battled back to 24-22, Destiny Parsons' free ball kill earned the 25-22 win for Harper. Parsons led Harper with 4 kills. Van Dyke had 11 digs. Ahlstedt was 8-8 serving with 3 aces. Kadolph added 7 more digs.

Moraine Valley started strong in the third set, jumping out to a 2-8 lead and forced Harper to call timeout. Harper chipped away at the deficit, and with 4 key kills from
Mira Tchohadjieva and 8 consecutive serves from Kadolph went from 11-17 to lead 19-17. Harper closed the match with a 25-19 victory and a 3-0 match win. Chojnowski had 4 kills, and Tchohadjieva ended the match with 4 consecutive kills. Kadolph was 10-10 serving in this final set and included 5 aces!

For the match,
Van Dyke had 21 digs. Kadolph had 18 digs and was also 20-20 serving with 7 aces – 2 more aces would have put her in the Harper Volleyball record book for a 3-set match. Frappier was also perfect serving, 14-14, with 3 aces.


The Hawks play next on Saturday at the Illinois Valley Tri.
