Harper Soars to Double Victory at IVCC Tri

Oglesby, IL: Harper Volleyball traveled to Illinois Valley College in Oglesby, IL, for a Tri-match on Saturday, September 13, 2025, and defeated host Illinois Valley in 3 sets 25-14, 25-21, 25-18; and defeated Lewis & Clark in 4 sets 25-16, 25-15, 24-26, 25-19

Harper College defeated Illinois Valley 25-14, 25-21, 25-18
In the first set after a 3-3 start, Harper took slim leads at 8-5 and extended to 14-10. After a
Jada Hoyt block and a timeout at 18-12, Harper extended the lead to 22-14 and a 25-14 win. Lauren Ahlstedt, Jocelyn Erling, Kylie Chojnowski and Hoyt EACH had 3 kills. Erling and Ana Kadolph each had 6 digs.

In the second set, after Harper's initial lead at 8-5, there were several ties at 11-11, 12-12, 15-15 and 16-16. Harper pulled ahead at 19-16, then 22-16 before a 25-21 win.
Ahlstedt and Erling each had 4 kills.

A very similar story in the last set… after ties at 2-2 and 3-3, this time Harper fell behind 5-9, but caught up at 11-11, 12-12 and 15-15.  Harper took a 17-15 lead behind
Kadolph's serving. Harper extended to 20-17 before winning the set 25-18, and the match 3-0. Chojnowski finished this set with 6 kills with 5 of them on her last 6 swings. Kadolph finished 7-7 serving and 2 aces.

Harper College defeated Lewis & Clark 25-16, 25-15, 24-26, 25-19
Harper Volleyball started out slow in the first set against Lewis & Clark and fell behind 1-5. Harper caught up quickly at 7-7, and took a solid 13-8 lead; then 19-13 and 21-14 before winning 25-16.
Ahlstedt had 4 kills on 4 attacks and Hoyt had 3 blocks.

The second set saw 10 consecutive ties at 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, 5-5, 6-6, 7-7, 8-8, 9-9, 10-10 and 11-11… Harper took a slim 15-11 lead, extended to 21-13 before winning 25-15.
Erling had 4 kills: Ahlstedt 3 kills and Destiny Parsons 3 kills. 

In the third set, Harper rolled to a 12-5 lead, which quickly evaporated as Lewis and Clark outscored Harper 17 out of the next 21 points; At this point, Harper was behind 19-23 after a
Mira Tchohadjieva kill and began to mount a comeback of its own… A double block from Ahlstedt and Ali Pierre made the score 20-23… after a hitting error from Lewis & Clark, Harper pulled to 21-23. Harper pulled to 22-24 on a Erling attack… at 23-24 there was a LONG scramble that ended on a Ahlstedt kill.  At 24-24, Harper failed to dig a deflection and subsequently stuffed on an outside attack to fall 24-26 in this fun and entertaining set. Erling led Harper with 5 kills in this marathon.

In the final set, Harper started out on a mission and led 4-0.  But Lewis & Clark tied the score at 7-7, 8-8, 10-10 and 11-11… Harper took a 17-13 lead, but Lewis & Clark tied the score again at 19-19. After a Harper sideout,
Hoyt went back and served the final 5 points with same excellent serving while flashing some defense and Harper won the set 25-19 and the match 3-1. Chojnowski led Harper with 6 kills in this final set with an exclamation point on the final kill of the match. Tchohadjieva had 4 kills of her own. Erling was 10-11 serving, and Hoyt was 8-8 serving with an ace.


Harper Volleyball's next match is at home on Tuesday, September 16, against Bryant & Stratton, from Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.
