Hawks Sweep Bobcats to Extend Winning Streak to Six

Palatine, IL: Harper Volleyball turned in a dominant all-around performance in their sweep of Bryant & Stratton, using strong serving runs, efficient attacking, and standout individual efforts to control the match from start to finish. The Hawks extended their winning streak to six and rolled to set wins of 25-14, 25-9, and 25-10.

The first set started out close with ties at 3-3, 4-4, 5-5 and 6-6. At that point, Jocelyn Erling served 4 aces in a row to lead 10-6.  Harper then led 14-7, 18-8 and finished with a 25-14 win. Erling was 7-7 serving, 5 digs, 3 kills on 4 attacks, a block and a half, and a partridge in a pear tree; Mira Tchohadjieva had 4 kills on 5 attacks. Lauren Ahlstedt had 2 kills on 3 attacks.

The second set was tied at 1-1 and 2-2, before Harper scored the next 6 points in a row to take an 8-2 lead. Harper extended the lead to 14-6 and won 25-9. Destiny Parsons was shot out of a cannon and had 6 kills on 8 swings playing right side, plus a block. Ziya Cooks was cookin' with 3 kills on 4 swings, and Ali Pierre also had 3 kills on 4 swings. Ana Kadolph wanted her name in pixels too, and was 15 of 15 serving with 5 aces, plus 7 digs.

In the final set, Harper Volleyball started out 0-3, but tied the score at 5-5… then coasted to a 23-7 lead and won 25-10. Parsons continued on fire, playing middle this time and was 5-5 attacking with 5 kills. She finished the match with 11 kills on just 13 swings for an 85% hitting efficiency hitting both right side and middle. Coach Bob Vilsoet lamented, "I don't think I ever had somebody have a higher hitting percentage than that with over 10 attack attempts. We don't keep advanced statistics like that, but it wouldn't surprise me that was the best hitting percentage for a match at Harper, ever."  Pierre was 7-8 serving, and had 2 aces. For the match, Raegan Frappier was 11-11 serving with 2 aces.

Individual Notes:
Phoebe Kim is currently #1 in the entire NJCAA Div II in total assists with 629 (8.99 assists/set).
Jocelyn Erling is currently #4 in the NJCAA Div II in total kills with 230 (a healthy 3.43 kills/set), and hitting a superstar-like .283 hitting percentage.
 
Team Notes:
Currently, Harper College is 3rd in the NJCAA Division II for total kills with 809. Parkland is #1, and Milwaukee is second. Harper Volleyball plays Milwaukee twice later in the year.
Harper College is also 8th in total digs… Milwaukee is 3rd. Hmmm…
