Harper Travels to Davenport, Take Two at St. Ambrose

Harper drove cross-country during the cross-country season to play St. Ambrose University JV teams in Davenport, Iowa. Harper won both 2 of 3 matches 25-18, 25-21 and 22-25, 25-22, 25-22.

Harper College defeated St. Ambrose JV 25-18, 25-21
In the first set, there were ties at 2-2, 3-3, 4-4 and 5-5, before Harper went on a good run on
Ziya Cooks' serves to lead 14-7, then Harper extended the lead to 22-12 on Brianna Van Dyke's serves and won 25-18. Lauren Ahlstedt had 4 kills on 6 attacks.  Van Dyke was 5-6 serving with 2 aces. Cooks was 5-5 serving with 3 aces.

In the second set of this 2 of 3 match, the score started out close at 3-3. Harper took a 10-5 lead, and maintained the lead 16-11, 18-12, 20-15… St. Ambrose cosed to 23-21. At that point,
Mira Tchohadjieva had a loud block, and Raegan Frappier had good timing and won the last point on an ace. Van Dyke was 6-7 serving with 2 aces.

In the first set, there were ties at 1-1, 5-5, 7-7 and 9-9.  Harper missed 4 serves at this point.  More ties ensued at 10-10, and 11-11… after four consecutive hitting errors in a row, Harper fell behind 11-16, but pulled close at 18-19, which is as close as Harper got in this 22-25 loss. 
Frappier and Ali Pierre led Harper with 3 kills each. Oliwia Bardo had 2 aces.

In the second set, Harper fell behind 0-3, and 5-11, but tied the score at 17's on a herculean effort… more ties at 18-18, 19-19, 20-20 and 21-21 in this exciting match!  Harper pulled a bit away at 23-21 before winning 25-22. 
Destiny Parsons joined the leaderboard with 4 kills and a block, plus was 6-6 serving with an ace. Bardo was 5-6 serving with 4 aces.

In the third and deciding set, Harper started out 3-0, 5-1 and 12-4, but St. Ambrose closed to 16-13 and 19-16 before St. Ambrose made a great comeback to level the match at 20-20. More ties at 21-21, and 22-22 in this well-played deciding set. Harper pulled away a bit at 23-21 before winning 25-22.
Kylie Chojnowski evidently wanted to go home, and took charge with 5 kills and a block. Pierre added 2 kills and 2 block-kills. Jocelyn Erling had 3 kills, 9 assists, and a block-kill as well. Bardo added 2 more aces on 4 serves [8 total aces on just 15 serves for the match]. Ceylin Ertekin was 5-5 serving with an ace.


Next matches are at Harper College on Saturday, September 20, at 10:00 a.m. versus Kishwaukee, and at 2:00 p.m. versus South Suburban.
