Hawks Rally Past Joliet for 3-1 Road Victory

Joliet, IL: Harper College defeated Joliet 26-28, 25-16, 25-21, 25-19

In the first set, in this first-class Joliet Jr. College sports facility, Harper Volleyball fell behind 3-6. Harper pulled to 8-9 and promptly missed a serve. Then Harper pulled within 9-10 and missed another serve. So, that's how its going to be… At 9-14, Harper coach called timeout… Joliet extended the lead to 11-18. I guess the timeout didn't work. Harper continued the fight to 15-18… and tied the score at 19-19 on a
Lauren Ahlstedt (Lake Park High School) kill. Then 22-22 on another Ahlstedt kill;  23-23 on a Ahlstedt tip, and 24-24 on a Ahlstedt kill.  Finally a 26-25 lead on a Jocelyn Erling (Huntley High School) Tool… "We got this, right?"  Nope. Lost 26-28. Down 0-1 in sets. Erling ended this set with 7 kills. Ahlstedt had 5 kills. Raegan Frappier (/Mexico High School) was 7 of 7 serving, an ace and 6 digs.

In the second set, score was level at 4-4 and 6-6;  Harper took an 8-6 lead, and then 12-7 after a BIG block from
Ali Pierre (Jacobs High School).  Harper Volleyball extended to 14-8, 20-10 and won 25-16.  Sets are now tied 1-1.  Pierre entered the match and had 4 kills and a BIG BLOCK in bold letters on the score sheet. Destiny Parsons (McHenry High School) also entered the match and had 3 kills and a block in small letters on the score sheet. Mira Tchohadjieva (Palatine High School) added 3 kills. Parsons was also 8 of 8 serving with 2 aces.

In the third set, more level scores at 3-3, 4-4 and 5-5. Harper took a 9-5 lead and extended again to 12-7… again. Joliet fighting hard tied the score quickly at 15-15. More ties at 18-18, 19-19, 20-20 and 21-21 in this exciting third set of the match. Harper scored the last 4 points to win 25-21.
Pierre came to play and added 5 kills; 3 in a row at the end of this set. Erling added 3 kills and a block. Phoebe Kim (Hoffman Estates High School) was 7 of 7 serving with 5 digs.

In the fourth set, now familiar with the surroundings, Harper jumped to a 10-1 lead and coasted to leads of 14-4, 18-8 and 21-10. Joliet closed the gap to 23-17, before Harper won the set 25-19 and the match 3-1.
Erling added 6 kills and Ahlstedt had 3 kills and a loud block herself. Ana Kadolph (Lake Park High School) was 11 of 11 serving with 3 aces in this set; was 22 of 22 serving for the match, and a team-high 4 aces. Brianna Van Dyke (Conant High School) was 5 of 5 serving and an ace. Van Dyke served 16 of 17 for the match with 3 aces.

Bob Vilsoet noted, "Joliet plays good defense, and has some serious punch!  This was a tough match.  It's never easy winning here in Joliet.  This was a well earned region win."
