Hawks Sweep Dual-Dual, Improve to 20 Wins

Palatine, IL: Harper Volleyball hosted a Dual-Dual meet with St. Ambrose University, Glen Oaks College, and Lake Michigan College. Three states were represented, Iowa, Illinois and Michigan in this Dual-Dual meet. Harper defeated Glen Oaks College, 25-14, 25-18, 25-13; and defeated Lake Michigan College 25-14, 25-18, 25-13. St. Ambrose won both of its matches, as well.

Harper defeated Glen Oaks MI, 25-14, 25-18, 25-13
In the first set, Harper took a 15-6 lead, extended to 17-10 and won 25-14. 
Kylie Chojnowski (McHenry High School) finished this set with 4 kills in a row. Lauren Ahlstedt (Lake Park High School) and Destiny Parsons (McHenry High School) each added 3 kills. Jocelyn Erling (Huntley High School) was 6-6 serving with 3 aces.

In the second set, things were much closer as Glen Oaks acclimated… 3-3… Harper fell behind 10-13 and 11-15; when a major turn of events while
Erling was serving, led to a Harper 19-15 lead (8 straight points), and a subsequent 25-18 win. Ahlstedt was on fire with 6 kills on 7 attacks. Erling had 5 kills, Parsons added 3 kills, and Ali Pierre (Jacobs High School) scored points with 2 kills and 2 block-kills in this well-played set. Phoebe Kim (Hoffman Estates High School) registered a pretty astounding 16 assists in this set. Erling was 9-11 serving. Raegan Frappier (Mexico High School) and Brianna Van Dyke (Conant High School) each had 5 digs.

In the last set, Harper led 6-1 and 14-6, before closing on a 25-13 win. 
Pierre continued her tirade with 4 kills and a block. Erling had 4 more kills. Ana Kadolph (Lake Park High School) got loose for 9-9 serving. Van Dyke had 9 digs, and Kim added 6 digs of her own to go with 10 assists.
 

Coach Bob Vilsoet noted, "It was nice to see the gym being used for multiple volleyball matches at the same time again… like we used to do when we hosted tournaments in the past!  Of course, Daniel, and the staff did a great job setting everything up, handling the score table and lines!"
  
Harper defeated Lake Michigan MI,  25-16, 25-11, 25-21
In the first set, Harper was playing near flawlessly, and took leads of 4-1, and 9-2.  To go up 12-4,
Frappier made 2 highlight digs on the same rally! Harper extended the lead to 21-8 on a Chojnowski highlight smash. Harper won this set 25-9. Ziya Cooks (Hoffman Estates High School) was on fire, and cooked Lake Michigan for 6 kills on 6 attacks! Erling added 3 kills. Kim had 11 assists. Kadolph led Harper with 5 digs. Frappier was 9-10 serving, and had 4 digs. Libero Van Dyke was 6-6 serving with 2 aces.

The second set saw ties at 3-3 and 10-10, while both teams were playing very well. Harper took a slim margin at 14-11, 17-14, 18-16, and 23-19 when
Van Dyke scored a very unusual ace… Harper then won 25-22. Pierre had 3 kills and a block-kill; Cooks added 2 more block-kills. Van Dyke added 7 digs, and 2 more aces.

In the final set, Harper took leads of 6-2 and 9-3. 
Pierre posted a highlight reel shot at 10 points, and Ahlstedt followed up with a highlight smash with some hot sauce on it.  Harper led 14-9, 17-12 and closed out a well-played set and match with leads of 19-16, 20-17, and 22-19 before winning 25-19. Chojnowski closed out this set with 5 kills on 7 attacks. Ahlstedt had 5 kills as well. Setter Kim had 13 assists in this set and 35 for the match! Van Dyke had 12 digs in this set. 

Harper served well; for the match,
Van Dyke was 16-18 serving with 4 aces. Frappier was 15-17 serving and an ace, and Kadolph was 13-13 with an ace.
 

Coach Vilsoet said, "We played very well today, and it was obvious to everybody how much fun we were all having during these matches, today!"
 

Harper is now 20-7 overall, and 9-0 in Region 4. Next match is another very familiar Region 4 opponent;  College of DuPage. That match will be played at Harper College on Thursday, October 2, at 6:00 p.m.
