Hawks Fight Hard but Fall to 18th-Ranked Rock Valley

Palatine, IL: The Hawks women's basketball team delivered a competitive performance Tuesday night against #18 Rock Valley College but ultimately came up short in a 72-59 Region 4 loss at Hawks' Fieldhouse. Harper stayed within striking distance in every quarter, showcasing effort on both ends against one of the nation's top teams, yet Rock Valley's depth and execution proved to be the difference.

Rock Valley's balanced attack and consistency helped build and maintain a lead throughout the game. The Golden Eagles outscored Harper 18-14 in the first quarter and extended that advantage by halftime at 35-29. Rock Valley continued to apply pressure in the third quarter, outscoring the Hawks 24-21, and held on in the fourth to secure the final margin.

Individually,
Marque Taylor led Harper with a strong scoring effort, finishing with 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting and 2 of 4 from three, along with 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Hailey Franczkowski added 9 points, going 3 of 7 from three and showing her shooting presence. Kinsley Stillmann contributed 9 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, and recorded 6 steals, showcasing her activity on both ends of the floor. Zariela Myles chipped in 8 points, grabbing 5 rebounds and adding defensive energy. Gabriella Swanson managed 5 points and 10 rebounds, continuing her strong presence on the boards. Ariana Buss scored 6 points and added 3 assists. Xzandria Turner logged valuable minutes and contributed defensively.

Harper shot 30.3 percent from the field and 31.3 percent from three, while Rock Valley finished with 40.9 percent shooting and forced timely defensive stops. The Hawks also converted 14 of 20 free throws (70 percent).

Although the result was not what Harper hoped for, the Hawks' competitiveness against a nationally ranked opponent reflects growth in intensity and execution. Harper will look to carry this effort forward as they continue to build momentum in the second half of the season.
