Roche Hits for Cycle as Hawks Split with Lincoln Land

Normal, IL: The Hawks baseball team earned its first win of the 2026 season on Friday, splitting a doubleheader with NJCAA Division II opponent Lincoln Land Community College. The Hawks dropped the opener 7–4 before responding with a decisive 9–2 victory in game two.

In the first game, Harper rallied late but couldn't complete the comeback. The Hawks loaded the bases in the final inning, bringing the go-ahead run to the plate, but couldn't push any runs across.
Collin Roche was the clear standout, hitting for the cycle — collecting a single, double, triple, and home run in one of the best individual performances of the young season. Four different Hawks saw action on the mound as Harper continued to develop its early-season rotation.

The Hawks bounced back in the second game behind a dominant outing from
Riley Blackwell, who struck out 12 batters over five innings to earn the win. Offensively, Will Hickey powered the lineup with four RBIs, while the Hawks put together consistent at-bats to secure their first victory of the season.

With the split, Harper moved to 1–1 against Division II competition after a tough stretch versus Division I opponents. The Hawks will look to build momentum when they take on Joliet Junior College (Division III) in their next matchup.
