Hawks Drop Tough Doubleheader to Region 4 Power Black Hawk

Moline, IL: The Hawks baseball team faced a major early-season test on the road, dropping a pair of close games to Black Hawk College, one of the top teams in Region 4 a season ago after finishing 47-13. The Hawks fell 5-3 in game one and 12-11 in a high-scoring battle in game two.

In the opener, the Braves jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the Hawks battled back to tie the game at three. Harper showed resilience at the plate, but Black Hawk answered late with two runs to secure the win.
Will Hickey led the Hawks with two RBIs, while Nick Drtina added a double. On the mound, Logan Sarna got the start before Mason Hulligan came on in relief as the Hawks kept the game within reach throughout.

Game two turned into a back-and-forth offensive showdown that saw Harper build multiple leads, only to see them slip away late. The Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead and later extended it to 11-4, putting themselves in a strong position to secure the split. However, the Braves responded with a game-changing eight-run sixth inning to take the lead and ultimately the win, 12-11.

Brayden Clancy powered the offense with five RBIs, while both Clancy and Cooper Nelson left the yard with home runs. Connor Kave added a triple, and four different Hawks recorded multiple hits in the game, highlighting the team's offensive depth. On the mound, Riley Blackwell, Jonah Elvidge, and Kenny Nanos all saw action, with Blackwell striking out six over five innings in a strong start.

Despite the losses, the Hawks showed they can compete with one of the region's top programs. The doubleheader marked Harper's first matchup against a Division II Region 4 opponent, providing a valuable benchmark as the season continues.
