Hawks Drop High-Scoring Doubleheader to DuPage

Palatine, IL: The Hawks returned to action on Sunday, March 29th, but came up short in both games of a doubleheader against the College of DuPage. Harper fell 11-3 in game one before battling through a wild offensive showdown in game two, ultimately losing 23-22. 

In the opener, Taylor Nicholson accounted for all of Harper's offense, driving in two RBIs in the loss. Despite early opportunities, the Hawks were unable to keep pace with DuPage's consistent scoring.

Game two turned into one of the most explosive contests of the season, with both teams trading runs throughout. The Hawks' offense erupted for 22 runs, highlighted by a huge performance from Gabi Phillis, who tallied five RBIs along with a home run and a double. Whitney Schnack and Julianna Gonzalez each added four RBIs, while Destiny Nino contributed three RBIs and a double. McKenzie Matzl and Jordan Murtaugh each drove in two runs, with Matzl also recording a double. Harper stayed aggressive on the basepaths as well, with four different players recording stolen bases.

Despite the offensive outburst, the Hawks were unable to hold off DuPage in the final innings, dropping a narrow one-run decision. Harper will look to bounce back when they take on MATC on April 3rd.
