XC Wins Region IV Championships

Batavia, IL: The Harper Hawks cross country teams both left Batavia with the Region IV Championship plaque. On top of winning the region, both teams beat all DII competition as well.

Women
The women's team was led by sophomores Lilly Alberts. Alberts won her fifth race of the season while also earning Region IV Runner of the Year. She tied her season best 5k running 18:52.

The Hawks had two more runners earn All-Region honors by finishing in the top five. Claudia Wojciechowski finished fifth overall and third among DIII runners while Kaili Decker finished sixth overall and fourth among DIII runners. They ran times of 21:03 and 21:09.

Kasey Ledinsky and Brianna Ruiz weren't far behind finishing ninth and 10th overall and sixth and seventh among DIII runners. They finished in 22:09 and 22:26.

Isabella Wojciechowski also competed for the Hawks finishing 24th overall and 11th among DIII runners. She finished with a time of 24:30.

The women also beat every DII school as a team in the meet as well.

Men
The men's team was led by freshman Owen Whelan. Whelan finished fourth overall as well as fourth among DIII runners with a time of 27:48. Following close behind were Marcos Jaimes, Albert Szewczyk, and Konrad Jakubowski. They finished sixth, seventh, and eighth overall and finished as the fifth, sixth, and seventh DIII runners. Their times were 27:59, 28:05, and 28:07. Whelan and Jaimes earned All-Region honors.

Jason Schmidt rounded out the scoring for the Hawks finishing 11th overall and eighth among DIII runners. Jose Morales and Eric Martinez were close behind finishing 12th and 13th overall and ninth and 10th for DIII runners. The ran 28:32, 28:42, and 28:47.

Harry Carr and Matt Trybus were the next Hawks to finish, They ran 29:48 and 30:26.

Carter Swearingen, Jose Guzman, Edwin Amaro, and Christopher Gama also raced for the Hawks. Amaro set a personal best with a time of 32:57.

The men beat every DII school as a team just as the women did.

Coach James Macnider won Region IV Coach of the Year for both teams.

Harper has been ranked first all season for both women and men. The Hawks will travel to John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Alabama, for the NJCAA National Championship on November 11th.
