Hawks MXC Finishes as Region 4 Runner-Ups

The NJCAA Region 4 Cross Country Meet showcased an exciting day of competition, with teams and individual runners pushing their limits on a challenging course. The event brought together top talent from across the region, making for an intense and thrilling atmosphere.

DuPage won the men's race, with Kevin Diederich claiming first place with an impressive time of 26:19. His performance not only secured him the individual title but also helped propel his team to a strong finish of 26 points.

In second place was Nathan Ciarlette from Joliet, clocking in at 26:24, followed closely by Owen Whelan from Harper, who finished with a time of 26:27. The competition was fierce, with several runners battling for first place and an All-Region nomination. Whelan was the only Hawk to crack the top five to earn NJCAA DIII Region 4 All-Region this year.

The Hawks finished second, showcasing depth in their lineup with 45 points and six runners in the top 15. Behind Whelan in third, Jerome Graessle, Connor Ariunbat, Jose Morales, Konrad Jakubowski, and Jason Schmidt finished 9th-13th. Graessle has shown steady improvement and consistency throughout the year as he finished as the Hawks number two for the first time. Other runners for the Hawks were Michael Johnson (20th), Dakota White (22nd), Edwin Amaro (27th), and Tim O'Leary (29th).

With the NJCAA DIII National Championship on the horizon, the athletes are gearing up for another level of competition. Many runners expressed their excitement for the opportunity to compete at the national level, and coaches are optimistic about their teams' prospects.
