Golden, Welc Lead Hawks at Warrior Invitational

West Allis, WI: The Hawks men's cross country team continued its strong fall campaign at the 25th annual Warrior Invitational hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College on Saturday at Greenfield Park. Racing the 8k course through the wooded trails at 10 a.m., the Hawks delivered another solid team effort in one of the Midwest's most traditional meets. Next year, the event will be renamed the Steve Travis Invitational in honor of retiring Wisconsin Lutheran head coach Steve Travis, who has led the Warriors program for 33 years.

The Hawks were led once again by Ryan Golden, who finished 5th overall with a time of 27:35, marking his third meet as Harper's top finisher. Close behind was Sebastian Welc, who placed 9th in 27:46 after running stride-for-stride with Golden for the first three miles before the two began to separate late in the race.

Ethan Waddell earned his first finish as the Hawks' third runner, placing 16th overall in a personal best time of 28:37. Jerome Graessle and Michael Johnson rounded out Harper's scoring five, finishing 23rd (29:15) and 25th (29:24), respectively. Graessle made the strategic decision to run in his training shoes instead of his racing spikes. Not one Coach Macnider recommended but then again his hand was forced given Graessle left his spikes in his locker.

Also competing for the Hawks were Nate Larsen, RJ Moniri, Eric Escobedo, and Sean Burke, who made his collegiate debut in the race.

The Hawks will return to action on Saturday, October 11th, at the Gene Davis Invitational, hosted by Lawrence University at Reid Municipal Golf Course in Appleton, Wisconsin.
