Hawks Win Fifth Straight in Rout of Milwaukee

Stephanie Igielski talled a team-high 9 kills in Harper's win over Milwaukee.
PALATINE, Ill. – The #9 Harper College volleyball team won their fifth match in a row on Tuesday night, defeating Milwaukee Area Technical College 3-0 (25-2, 25-3, 25-8).

Harper (31-11, 9-2 N4C) won the first 19 points of the match on the serve of Andraia Leja (Crystal Lake, Ill., Prairie Ridge), who picked up all 8 of her aces during the run.  Stephanie Igielski (Streamwood, Ill., St. Edwards) notched 4 kills in the spurt.  Milwaukee (0-20) scored 2 of the next 3 points but kills from Lindsey Pickle (Arlington Heights, Ill., Prospect), Igielski and Lauren LaMasse (Hoffman Estates, Ill., Hoffman Estates) sandwiched around an ace from Sarah House (Crystal Lake, Ill., Crystal Lake South) closed the first game out 25-2 in Harper's favor.

The second game was more of the same as the Hawks ran off 10 straight before Milwaukee got 2 of the next 4 points.  Kills from Igielski and LaMasse and 4 straight aces from Igielski highlighted the run.  Harper then won 12 of the next 13 points, 4 which were courtesy of House kills, to win 25-3.

Milwaukee actually led 3-1 to start the third and final game, but the Hawks went on a 13-0 run, largely in part to 6 aces from Kelly Sommers (Arlington Heights, Ill., Buffalo Grove).  Kills from Sierra Gilmore (Fayetteville, NC, Cape Fear) and Sam Wallenberg (Elk Grove, Ill., St. Viator) put Harper up 17-5 as the Hawks coasted to a 25-8 win in game 3.

Igielski finished with a team-high 9 kills while House added 7 kills.  Leja and Sommers combined for 15 aces while Alyssa Cazzato (Bartlett, Ill., Bartlett) had 17 assists.

Up next, Harper finishes up their brief 2-match homestand against Madison College (19-8).  First serve is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
