After
Sarah Eschenbaum (Lake Zurich, Ill., Lake Zurich) went down with an ankle injury, the Harper College women's basketball team had just five available players, which turned out to be too much to overcome in a 71-26 loss to Moraine Valley Community College (4-1) on Tuesday night in Palatine, Ill.
Harper (0-3) led 3-2 on two free throws from
Mitshi Ishioka (Carlsbad, Calif., Carlsbad) but the Hawks didn't score again until
Jimielle Brown (Hoffman Estates, Ill., Elgin) knocked down a 3-pointer with 8:50 to make the score 22-6.
Harper trailed 50-7 at halftime and struggled in the opening minutes of the second half but in the final 14 minutes, the team got it going offensively. Ishioka and Brown scored on consecutive trips before the duo each knocked down a pair of free throws three minutes later. The Hawks outscored the Cyclones 19-11 in the last 13:58 of the game.
Ishioka led the way with 14 points and 2 assists while Brown added 10 points.
The team closes out its' brief two-game homestand with a 5:00 PM contest against Oakton on Thursday.
