Women's Basketball Drops Opener to Oakton

Mitshi Ishioka had a team-best 14 points for Harper on Thursday night.
Despite 14 points from Mitshi Ishioka (Carlsbad), the Harper College women's basketball team suffered a 76-37 defeat at the hands of Oakton Community College on Thursday night in Des Plaines in Harper's season opener.

Oakton (2-0) jumped out to an early lead but a basket by Ishioka narrowed the gap to 12-5 with 13:56 left in the first half.  The Raiders proceeded to go on a 15-3 spurt with the only Hawks points during that span coming on a 3-pointer from Sarah Eschenbaum (Lake Zurich).  The hosts increased their lead to 37-13 before Ishioka converted a runner despite also being fouled.  She hit the ensuing free throw for an old-fashioned 3-point play.

Eschenbaum and Stephanie Weekly (Hersey) each had 6 points for Harper, who shot 32% from the field and 71% from the free throw line.  Ishioka led the team with 3 assists and 3 rebounds.

Harper (0-1) returns to the court on Friday night in Elgin to take on Elgin Community College.   Tipoff is slated for 7:00 PM.
