Volleyball Sweeps McHenry, Wins Fifth Straight

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill.The Harper College volleyball team turned in another solid performance on Thursday night, defeating host McHenry County College in 3 games (25-21, 25-6, 25-18).  The win was the Hawks sixth in a row.
In the first game, Harper took an early 6-2 lead and maintained a comfortable cushion throughout.  Thanks to some heady serving by  in the second, the Hawks jumped up to a 14-2 lead and never looked back.  Liz Dotson (Palatine, Ill., Fremd), who had 6 kills in the match, sparked Harper's offense in that second game with her attacking.  The third game was a lot closer as the visitors only led 20-18.  But the Hawks finished off the match with 5 straight points to claim the victory.

“McHenry is a very strong team,” said head coach Bob Vilsoet.  “Evidently, we were ready.  We turned in a gem of a match, tonight.”

Lauren LaMasse (Hoffman Estates, Ill., Hoffman Estates) led the way with 13 kills, while Sarah House (Crystal Lake, Ill., Crystal Lake South) added 9 kills.  Alyssa Cazzato (Bartlett, Ill., Bartlett) directed the Hawks offense to a tune of 29 assists while Andraia Leja (Crystal Lake, Ill., Prairie Ridge), Megan Kollmeyer (Tustin, Mich., Pine River), Sarah House (Crystal Lake, Ill., Crystal Lake South), Cazzato and Sam Wallenberg (Elk Grove, Ill., St. Viator) all contributed on defense.  With the win, Harper improves to 13-4 overall and 4-1 in N4C play.

Looking ahead, Harper travels to the Illinois Valley Invitational on Saturday.  The Hawks will face Waubonsee and Aurora JV in pool play, followed by a playoff match.
