Hawks Start New Winning Streak at Illinois Valley Invite

Clara Moravec had three blocks against Waubonsee.

OGLESBY, Ill.Harper's winning streak came to an end on Saturday, but a new one is already in progress.  Despite falling to Waubonsee College in their opening match of the Illinois Valley Invite, the Hawks rebounded to sweep Aurora College JV and Illinois Valley in action later that day.  As a result, the team finished tied for third place out of 6 teams at the tournament.

Waubonsee (7-4) swept Harper (15-5) in the tournament's first match (20-25, 22-25, 20-25).
Lauren LaMasse (Hoffman Estates, Ill., Hoffman Estates) threw down 8 kills while Liz Dotson (Palatine, Ill., Fremd) and Lindsey Pickle (Arlington Heights, Ill., Prospect) added 5 kills each.  Clara Moravec (Lake in the Hills, Ill., Jacobs) (3 blocks) and Andraia Leja (Crystal Lake, Ill., Prairie Ridge) (17 digs) led the Hawks on defense.  Kelly Sommers (Arlington Heights, Ill., Buffalo Grove) had a team-high 19 assists.

Harper bounced back in its second game of the day, defeating Aurora College JV (25-12, 25-19, 25-14).  LaMasse, Pickle and
Sierra Gilmore (Fayetteville, NC, Cape Fear) led the Hawks on the attack, totaling a combined 18 kills.  Leja had three aces serving and Alyssa Cazzato (Bartlett, Ill., Bartlett) had a double-double with 23 assists and 16 digs.

The Hawks finished the day by beating the hosts (25-10, 25-13, 25-12).  Sarah House (Crystal Lake, Ill., Crystal Lake South) notched a team-high 9 kills, and Moravec contributed seven kills.  Moravec added to her solid all-around game with four aces and four blocks.  Illinois Valley Central (2-11) never seriously threatened Harper in any of the sets.

The team returns to action on Tuesday as the Hawks travel to Alverno College to take on Milwaukee Area Technical College.  First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
