MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Harper College volleyball team started off their two-game Wisconsin swing on the right foot Tuesday night, defeating host Milwaukee Area Technical College (0-5) in 3 games (25-5, 25-6, 25-14). Nine different Hawks registered kills as Bolawa Gbadebo (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Thornwood/Hoffman Estates) (Hoffman Estates, Ill., Thornwood/Hoffman Estates) led the team with 7, Sierra Gilmore (Fayetteville, NC, Cape Fear) had 6, Lauren Knipp (Des Plaines, Ill., Maine West) had 5 and Lindsey Pickle (Arlington Heights, Ill., Prospect) also had 5 on a perfect 7-for-7 swinging.
"It was a long ride back and forth to Milwaukee on a nice bus,” said head coach Bob Vilsoet said. “But at least everyone had a chance to play.”
Harper (16-5, 4-1 N4C) excelled on the service line, registering a total of 24 aces. Sarah House (Crystal Lake, Ill., Crystal Lake South), Clara Moravec (Lake in the Hills, Ill., Jacobs), Kelly Sommers (Arlington Heights, Ill., Buffalo Grove) and Andraia Leja (Crystal Lake, Ill., Prairie Ridge) all tallied aces for Harper.
“Clara had 9 aces in one game and Kelly added another 7 aces,” Vilsoet said. “Both tallies made it to our record book for most aces during a 3-game match."
Harper concludes its roadtrip on Thursday night as the Hawks square off with Madison College (14-4, 3-2 N4C). The Wolfpack are currently ranked sixth in the NJCAA Division III poll. The 2 squads squared off at the College of DuPage Invitational on August 27 with Madison College prevailing 2-1. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
