MILWAUKEE, Wis. – They hung tough, but ultimately it just wasn't enough. Such has been the theme for the Harper College men's basketball team this season as the Hawks were tied with Milwaukee Area Technical College at halftime but were outplayed in the second half in a 77-61 defeat.
Harper (6-12, 0-2 N4C) was locked in a 31-31 tie with Milwaukee (12-4, 2-0) going into intermission but the Stormers pulled away after the break. Patrick Zemanovic led Milwaukee with 19 points while Rishaad Alexander chipped in with 14.
Horace Grant, Jr. (Deerfield, Ill., Deerfield) had an excellent shooting day, knocking down 4 of his 5 three-point attempts en route to a team-high 13 points. He also proved valuable on the other end of the floor as well, pulling down four rebounds and tallying three steals.
The Hawks' other double-figure scorers were
Jordan Mack (Hillside, Ill., St. Joseph) and
Brian Battaglia (Elk Grove, Ill., Elk Grove), who totaled 11 and ten points, respectively.
Louis Erkins (Schaumburg, Ill., Glenbard South) and
John Lorenz (Elk Grove Village, Ill., Elk Grove) provided solid play off the bench, as each made 3 of their 4 shots for a Harper squad that shot 40% (23 of 57) from the field and connected on 7 of 19 from downtown.
After playing their first two conference contests on the road, Harper returns home to face Joliet Junior College (12-6, 1-1). The Wolves dropped their conference opener to Rock Valley College but recovered to beat Madison College 72-63 last time out.
