PALATINE, Ill. – In their first home action this season, the #11 Harper College wrestling team won two of their three dual meets, taking down #25 Triton College 31-12 and #15 Muskegon Community College 36-6 while dropping their final match of the day to #4 Lincoln College 24-18.
Curtis Blaydes continued his domination of the heavyweight division, winning all three of his matches on the day.
Chris Gonzalez (Bloom Trail) also excelled at 157 to go 3-0. Head coach
Dan Loprieno was also pleased with the performance of
Josh Tardy (Naperville, Ill., Naperville Central), who narrowly lost to the fourth ranked wrestler at 141, Lincoln's Ethan Raley.
While the Hawks handled the Jayhawks easily due to a large number of forfeits, Muskegon figures to be a key player in the Midwest District meet that qualifies wrestlers for nationals.
“When we get everyone going, the region is probably going to be between us, Lincoln and Muskegon,” Loprieno said. “Muskegon had a lot of forfeits so that's not who they really are.”
Harper is back at home next Saturday for the second straight week in the Harper Open. The meet will begin at 9:30 AM.
