Harper Volleyball Handles Milwaukee

ALVERNO, Wis. – The #3 Harper College volleyball team got back in the win column with a sweep of Milwaukee Area Technical College (25-5, 25-10, 25-10).  The victory ended a brief two-match losing streak and kept the Hawks in second place behind #2 Rock Valley College.
 
In what would a trend all night, Harper (26-9, 8-2 N4C) got off to a fast start and kept adding to their lead.  The Hawks raced out to a 7-1 lead behind the serving of Kelly Sommers (Arlington Heights, Ill., Buffalo Grove) and extended the advantage to 15-4 before winning 25-5.  Stephanie Igielski (Streamwood, Ill., St. Edwards) had three aces during the final run.  The team continued that strong play into the second set with leads of 7-2 and 21-8 before winning 25-10.  Rebekah Hischke (Algonquin, Ill., Dundee Crown) and Erinn Hellweg (Wauconda, Ill., Wauconda) each had five kills in the set.  The third and final set of the evening went to Harper as Clara Moravec (Lake in the Hills, Ill., Jacobs) had two of the team's six kills in the set.
 
Hischke finished with a team-leading six kills while House added five.  Valerie Bazemore (Houston, Tex., Westfield) and Sommers each reached double-figures in assists with 14 and ten, respectively.  Bazemore also led the team in digs with eight and Hischke added seven.
 
Up next, Harper travels to Triton College on Thursday for a 6:00 PM match.  The Hawks already beat the Trojans 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-12) on Sept. 13.
