Hawks' Balanced Attack Tops Oakton

Box Score DES PLAINES, Ill. – A balanced scoring effort with six players scoring at least eight points help the Harper College men's basketball team get back to their winning ways with an 82-66 victory over Oakton Community College.  The win helped the Hawks rebound from Saturday's loss at Olive-Harvey and gives the team four wins in their last five games.
 
Four players reached double-figures for Harper (5-6), led by Garett Gatz (Elk Grove Village, Ill., Conant) with 20 points and Michael Rose (Rolling Meadows) with 16 points.  Tyler Gaedele (Rolling Meadows) hit five 3-pointers for 15 points and John Lorenz (Elk Grove, Ill./Elk Grove) added 11 points off the bench.
 
Five points from Gatz and three from Rose helped the Hawks race out to a 10-2 lead in the first two minutes of the game.  Kyoshiro Azumaya (Hoffman Estates) knocked down a 3-pointer from the right corner to put Harper up 31-25 with 6:41 left in the first half.
 
The Hawks led 41-38 at halftime and Gaedele opened up the second half with a triple.  Gatz gave Harper a double-digit lead as his 3-pointer with 14:12 left put the team up 55-45.  A bank shot from Rose made it 69-56 before Connor Miklasz (Hersey) knocked down two free throws and then a jumper for a 73-60 advantage.
 
Gatz hit the dagger with 1:00 left as his fourth 3-pointer of the evening bumped the lead to 80-66.
 
Miklasz and Brandon Kase each chipped in eight points.
