DES PLAINES, Ill. – Another game, another big effort from Monica Hinderer (The Willows Academy).  The freshman scored 32 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead the Harper College women's basketball team to a 55-52 win over Oakton Community College.

Hinderer made 14 of her 29 shot attempts to notch her second game over 30 points this season.  She is now averaging 21.6 points per game, which is sixth in the country, and 12.9 rebounds per game, which is tied for seventh in the country.

Tied at 52-52, Hinderer scored inside with 19 seconds to play for the winning basket.  Nicole Soderholm (Buffalo Grove) added a free throw to set the final margin.

Hinderer tied the game at 50-50 with 1:03 left with a 10-footer and then gave the team the lead with another bucket with 52 seconds left.

Harper (4-3) led 27-22 at halftime but Oakton rallied after intermission to take a 37-30 lead.  Soderholm, however, knocked down a 3-pointer to cap a 7-0 run and even things back up.  After the Raiders pulled ahead again, back-to-back baskets from Jayna Rowland (Christian Liberty Academy) and Hinderer tied the game at 43-43 with 6:00 left.

Soderholm finished with 12 points and eight assists as the Hawks won despite shooting 28.6% (22 of 77) from the field.  But the team made up for it as Hinderer had 13 of the team's 21 offensive rebounds.  Harper also forced its' share of turnovers as Hinderer, Rowland and Soderholm combined for ten of the team's 12 steals.

The Hawks continue their four-game road swing with a contest at Waubonsee Community College on Thursday night.  Tipoff is slated for 5:00 PM.
