MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Harper College men's basketball team used a series of runs to build a 19-point second advantage lead but they were unable to hold the lead, eventually falling 84-80 to Milwaukee Area Technical College in the Region IV Tournament quarterfinals and ending their season.
The Hawks (10-21) fell behind early 16-12 but rallied to go ahead 31-26 with 7:51 left in the first half after an 11-0 run.
Louis Erkins (Schaumburg, Ill., Glenbard South) scored nine of his 11 points in the opening 12 minutes.
Another run, this time a 13-4 spurt, gave Harper a 49-38 edge going into halftime as
Connor Miklasz (Mt. Prospect, Ill., Hersey) scored nine first half points. Miklasz completed a 9-0 run in the second half with a 3-pointer to give the Hawks a 70-51 lead with 12:47 left.
But the Stormers (20-11) closed to within 78-72 with 5:24 left and eventually pulled in front 79-78 with 2:58 remaining. Down a point with 13 seconds left,
Jordan Mack (Hillside, Ill., St. Joseph) tried a runner in the lane but was unable to convert.
Mack paced Harper with 18 points while
Shonnon Barfield (Posen, Ill., Homewood-Flossmoor) chipped in 15. Miklasz scored 12 points while
Horace Grant, Jr. (Deerfield, Ill., Deerfield) added ten.
