PALATINE, Ill. – The #4 Harper College volleyball team tallied 20 aces, including a school record 11 from Erinn Hellweg (Wauconda, Ill., Wauconda), on their way to a 3-0 (25-1, 25-6, 25-3) victory over Milwaukee Area Technical College.

Harper (12-1, 3-0 N4C) has now won ten matches in a row, which is tied the second longest winning streak in school history.  The record is 15 in row back in 2008.  It's also the best 13-match start in school history.

“Unfortunately for Milwaukee, they hired their new coach late, and do not have too many recruits yet,” said head coach Bob Vilsoet.  “They were missing their setter due to illness, and are in a rebuilding year.  On the positive side, they had good attitudes, and tried as best as they could on every point. ”

Hellweg served the last 18 points of the first set and got ten of her aces in that stretch.  Overall, she was 19-for-19 from the service line.  Kelly Spychala (Des Plaines, Ill., Elk Grove) added three aces on 19-for-19 serving and Sam Wallenberg (Elk Grove, Ill., St. Viator) was 12-for-12 with an ace in the second set.

Hellweg and Alyse Kolner (Crystal Lake, Ill., Marion Central) tied for team honors in kills with five while Sarah House (Crystal Lake, Ill., Crystal Lake South) and Rebekah Hischke (Algonquin, Ill., Dundee Crown) added four apiece.  Wallenberg, Hellweg and Valerie Bazemore (Houston, Tex., Westfield) all had at least six assists.  Madison Rodriguez (Palatine, Ill., Palatine) had six digs.

“We were able to stay focused this entire match, while everyone played,” Vilsoet said.  “We were also pretty impressed with how many people came out to watch us play this evening.”

The Hawks return to action on Thursday to host Triton.  First serve is slated for 6:00 PM.
