Harper Drops N4C Opener at Joliet

JOLIET, Ill. – In their first action in nearly a month, the Harper College women's basketball team dropped a 64-52 decision to Joliet Junior College in the opening game of the conference season.
 
While they forced Joliet (4-12) into 23 turnovers, Harper (5-5) committed 30 of their own and shot 35.1% (18-of-51) from the floor.  The Hawks trailed just 30-28 at halftime but were outscored 34-24 in the second half.
 
Monica Hinderer (Arlington Heights, Ill., The Willows Academy) paced the visitors with 24 points and 10 rebounds, her fifth double-double in nine games.  Rachel Payne (Wheeling, Ill., Schaumburg Christian Academy) added 15 points while Nicole Soderholm (Arlington Heights, Ill., Buffalo Grove) scored 11 points as each canned two 3-pointers.
 
Harper was outrebounded 46-23.  Sancha Ogden (Hanover Park, Ill., Hoffman Estates) added six rebounds.
 
The Hawks face a big challenge on Saturday when they travel to face the second-ranked team in Div. III, Rock Valley Junior College (14-2).  Tipoff is slated for 1:00 PM.
