Box Score PALATINE, Ill. – Spurred on by a huge run bridging the first and second halves, the Harper College men's basketball team defeated Rock Valley 83-64 as all five starters scored in double figures.  The victory avenged a 74-67 defeat on Jan. 12.

The starting five of Tyler Gaedele (Arlington Heights, Ill., Rolling Meadows ), Michael Rose (Rolling Meadows, Ill., Rolling Meadows), Connor Miklasz (Mount Prospect, Ill., Hersey), Garett Gatz (Elk Grove Village, Ill., Conant) and Charles Wright (Cheyenne, Wyo., Cheyenne East) combined for 75 of the team's points as the Hawks shot 47.8% (32-for-67) from the field.  Gaedele led the way with 19 points, including three 3-pointers.

Ahead by five points late in the first half, Harper (10-14, 3-6 N4C) embarked on a 24-4 run to take a commanding 55-30 lead with 15:31 left in the second half.  Miklasz, who scored 14 points and handed out 11 assists, started the run with two free throws and a layup.  Rose's steal and layup continued the momentum and Gaedele sank a 3-pointer 38 seconds before halftime for a 40-26 lead.  Miklasz opened the second half with an old fashioned 3-point play, a 3-pointer, a drive to the basket for a layup and finally a dish to Gatz for a triple.  Rose capped the run off a feed from Miklasz, who scored 12 points during the seven-minute stretch.

Rock Valley (13-12, 4-5) slowly worked their way back into the game, reaching the double bonus midway through the second half.  The Hawks held the visitors to 30% (18-for-60) shooting but the Golden Eagles made 21 of their 26 attempts from the free throw line to make up for it.  Rock Valley cut the lead to as close as 70-62 with 3:05 remaining, but Harper regrouped.

Gaedele scored two straight baskets and after Blake McElroy's two free throws with 2:30 left, the Hawks held the Golden Eagles scoreless the rest of the way.  Harper also cashed in at the free throw line down the stretch as Wright and Gatz combined to go 6-for-6.

Rose had 17 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double of his career.  Gatz hit three 3-pointers and scored 13 points while Wright added 12 points.  Gaedele also contributed nine rebounds and four steals.
