Box Score 4 SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Harper College volleyball team put together another strong showing at the Lincoln Land Invitational over the weekend, going 3-1 in its four matches.
Harper vs. Lincoln Trail College
Fresh off a thrilling win over Madison College on Thursday night, the Hawks (28-8) opened the invite Friday afternoon with a three-set victory over Lincoln Trail, 25-11, 25-23, 25-13. Alyssia Dugo (Algonquin, Ill. /Jacobs) and Adriana Loiacono (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) each smashed eight kills in the win. Setter Jillian Hoffman (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) dished out 17 assists and was a perfect 14-of-14 serving with an ace. Libero Meghan Chartier (Inverness, Ill./Buffalo Grove) played sound defense with 18 digs in the match.
Harper vs. Allen County Community College
Harper prevailed over Allen County in the nightcap on Friday, 26-24, 25-21, 25-17. Daniele Sortino (Elk Grove Village, Ill. /Elk Grove) paced the attack with 11 kills on just 19 swings. Chartier once again led the defense with 19 digs and went 18-of-18 serving with an ace. Setter Lindsey Murphy (Lake in the Hills, Ill./Crystal Lake South) notched a double-double with 10 digs and 27 assists.
"Allen County is a high-quality team. We obviously had to play well to win this match," said Harper head coach Bob Vilsoet.
Harper vs. John A. Logan College
After the two teams played a thrilling five-set match that the Hawks won back on Sept. 19 at the Harper College Invitational, this match came down to the fifth set once again. Tied at 16-16, the Hawks scored the final two points, with the final point coming on an emphatic kill from Lauren Sokolowski (Rolling Meadows, Ill./Rolling Meadows).
"WE continue to gain experience from these close matches. In addition, this one was worth the price of admission," Vilsoet said.
Loiacono continued her strong play with 11 kills, and Dugo and Shannon Igielski (Streamwood, Ill/St. Edward) each put down eight kills. Both setters posted double-doubles, with Murphy recording 15 digs and 23 assists and Hoffman with 18 digs and 18 assists. Chartier was all over the court on defense with a career-high 38 assists, and Sarah Berggren (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) recorded four blocks as well as seven kills.
Harper vs. Kankakee Community College
Coming off exhausting match against John A. Logan, the Hawks couldn't close the weekend out with a win against Kankakee Community College, losing in four sets (19-25, 25-21, 17-25, 20-25).
Loiacono led Harper with 12 kills on 30-of-31 hitting, while Alyssia Dugo (Algonquin, Ill. /Jacobs) totaled nine kills and was 17-of-17 serving with four aces. Murphy handed out 27 assists was 20-of-20 serving with two aces. Hoffman posted her second straight double-double with 12 digs and 16 assists.
Chartier Named to All-Tournament Team
Libero Meghan Chartier (Inverness, Ill./Buffalo Grove) was named to the Lincoln Land Invitational All-Tournament Team, her fourth All-Tournament team in a row. The first-year player had 103 digs for the tournament (6.87 digs/set) and was 55-of-58 serving with five aces in four matches.
