Box Score PALATINE, Ill. – The Harper volleyball team remained unbeaten in N4C play, as the Hawks topped Milwaukee Area Technical College in straight sets, 25-14, 25-18, and 28-26 on Tuesday night.
Harper (10-3, 3-0 N4C) took a 9-4 lead in the first set before a Milwaukee (0-6, 0-4 N4C) timeout. Leading 12-6, the Hawks rattled off seven straight points behind the strong serving of Kim Butler (Palatine, Ill/Palatine) (8-of-8, four aces), who also had six digs in the set. Lindsey Murphy (Lake in the Hills, Ill./Crystal Lake South) was 4-of-4 serving with two aces and also had five digs.
In the second set, Harper jumped out to 16-9 lead before another Stormers timeout. The Stormers eventually cut the deficit to 20-16, but Harper closed strong to secure the victory. Alyssia Dugo (Algonquin, Ill. /Jacobs) led Harper with three kills while Lauren Sokolowski (Rolling Meadows, Ill./Rolling Meadows) led the defense with six digs.
The third set was a much different story, as the Hawks trailed 8-3 in the early going. Harper tied at 13-13 on a Murphy kill, and the game featured nine more ties. Trailing 25-24, the Hawks won the next point to keep the set alive. Tied again at 26-26, the Hawks pulled ahead on a Murphy serve and won the match on a Sokolowski kill.
Sokolowski tallied a team-high eight kills and recorded three service aces. Sarah Berggren (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) led Harper on the defensive end with 12 digs, and Morgan Peterson (Roselle, Ill./Conant ) contributed 10 assists.
Harper travels to No. 1 Madison College (10-1, 2-0 N4C) Thursday night for a 6 PM match.
