Box Score JOLIET, Ill. – Locked in a 64-64 tie late in the game, the Harper College men's basketball team could not get a key bucket in the closing minutes at Joliet Junior College. The Wolves knocked down four free throws in the waning seconds to seal a 68-64 win over the Hawks.
Baskets from Davion Benton (Chicago, Ill. /Alcott College Prep) and Robert Hudson (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Conant) gave the Hawks (8-13, 1-4 N4C) a 61-57 lead, but the Wolves (16-5, 2-3 N4C) tied the game on a pair of free throws and basket from Dominic Gatling. Gatling split a pair of free throws on Joliet's next possession to give the Wolves 62-61 edge. On Harper's next trip down the court, Admir Suljic (Chicago, Ill. /Lane Tech) buried a 3-pointer to make it 64-62.
Joliet responded as Daymeann Stewart scored to tie the game at 64 apiece. After the Hawks failed to score on three straight trips down the court, the Wolves' Darious Randolph (game-high 22 points) got to the foul line and sank both shots to give Joliet the 66-64 lead.
The Wolves forced two turnovers on the next three Harper possessions, and Daymeann Stewart iced the game with a pair of free throws.
Suljic paced the Hawks with 16 points, and Davion Benton (Chicago, Ill. /Alcott College Prep) added a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds. Dvonta Jones (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) and Robert Hudson (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Conant) added 10 points each.
The Hawks are back at home on Saturday for an N4C contest against Milwaukee Area Technical College (16-4, 3-2 N4C). Tipoff is set for 3 PM inside the Wellness & Sports Center.
