KANKAKEE, Ill. – The Harper College volleyball team wrapped up the regular season by playing some excellent volleyball. The Hawks (33-12) earned wins over Kankakee Community College and Vincennes University at the Kankakee Tri-Match on Saturday.

Harper vs. Kankakee Community College

Playing against the host Kankakee Cavaliers in the early match Saturday morning, Harper prevailed in straight sets, 25-15, 25-17, 25-15.

"We played very well in this first match. We had fun and played together with great execution," said Harper head coach Bob Vilsoet.

That execution was a team effort. Setter Katelyn Sommers (/Buffalo Grove) guided the offense with 34 assists, and sophomore outside hitter Shannon Igielski (Streamwood, Ill/St. Edward) put down a team-high 11 kills on 23-of-25 hitting.

In the service game, Adriana Loiacono (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) (12-of-13, three aces) and Meghan Chartier (Inverness, Ill./Buffalo Grove) (17-of-17, two aces) both had strong matches. Defensively, first-year libero Kayla Mayer (/Wauconda) showed off her skill with 25 digs.

Harper vs. Vincennes University

The Hawks played an unfamiliar opponent, the Vincennes Blazers, in the second match of the day. After dropping the first set, Harper played well and won the next three sets for a four-set triumph, 22-25, 25-18.

On the attack, Sarah Berggren (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) led the charge, going 27-of-28 with 14 kills. Berggren also played strong defense with 3.5 blocks. Loiacono added 13 kills on 28-of-32 hitting and also had 13 digs for a double-double. She was also a perfect 12-of-12 with three aces.

Sommers handed out 39 assists to go along with 15 digs for a double-double.  On the defensive end, Mayer totaled 24 digs, and Hannah Moore (/Schaumburg) and Chartier contributed 21 and 17 kills, respectively.

"We played about as well as we can play. Just like a symphony, everybody played their part and executed well together," Vilsoet said. "Today was a good way to end the regular season."
