PALATINE, Ill. – There was no shortage of offense inside the Wellness & Sports Center on Friday evening. The Harper College men's basketball team got its 2015-16 season started with a 94-71 victory over visiting Judson University JV.
The Hawks (1-0) led 47-28 at halftime and continued to pour it on in the second year. Freshman Connor Elzerman (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) led the charge with a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds. Elzerman was hot from the field, making 8-of-11 shots and 4-of-4 from 3-point land. Allias Burnett (Joliet, Ill. /Joliet West) put up 16 points and eight rebounds in his first collegiate game, and Mike Calhoun (Chicago, Ill./Roberto Clemente) added 12 points and seven rebounds in just 15 minutes.
Sophomore point guard Marcus Gatlin (Chicago, Ill./Curie) had 11 points and five assists, and Ernest Kiseliovas (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) pitched in eight points. Maurice Brown (/Richards Career Academy) scored seven points and ripped down six rebounds, and Marcus Dover (/Conant) scored six points to go along with seven boards.
As a team, Harper shot 48.5 percent (33-of-68) from the field and 82.6 percent (19-of-23) from the free throw line. The Hawks also shot 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from the 3-point line and only committed 12 turnovers.
Up next for Harper is a trip to Kishwaukee College in Malta, Illinois for an 8 PM tip on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
