GLEN ELLYN, Ill. – For a third straight year, the Harper College volleyball team met the Rock Valley College Golden Eagles in the semifinals of the NJCAA Region IV Division III Championship. The No. 3 seed Hawks (34-13) lost in four sets to the No. 2 seed Golden Eagles (25-7), 19-25, 27-25, 14-25, 20-25, ending their run their hopes of qualifying for the national tournament.
Sophomore Adriana Loiaciono, who was named to the Region IV All-Tournament Team, played an outstanding match. She was 32-of-37 hitting with a team-best 16 kills in the match and also added nine digs. Shannon Igielski (Streamwood, Ill/St. Edward) also ended her Harper career with a strong match, going 16-of-18 with 12 kills. Sophomores Daniele Sortino (Elk Grove Village, Ill. /Elk Grove) and Sarah Berggren (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) put away six kills each.
Setter Katelyn Sommers (/Buffalo Grove) had 38 assists to go along with 12 assists for a double-double. Sommerds was also 12-of-13 from the service line with an ace.
Defensively, Kayla Mayer (/Wauconda) tallied a match-high 24 digs, and Meghan Chartier (Inverness, Ill./Buffalo Grove) had nine digs.
Despite the loss, the Hawks still had an outstanding season with a 34-13 record. Harper finished third in the North Central Community College Conference (N4C) and eclipsed 30 wins for a fifth straight season.
