PALATINE, Ill. – The Harper College women's basketball team hung tough in the first half on Saturday against Madison College. However, the WolfPack caught fire in the second half on their way to a 69-45 victory over the Hawks in the N4C regular season finale inside the Wellness & Sports Center.
Neither team led by more than five in the first half, and Harper (9-18, 3-9 N4C) trailed just 26-24 at the break behind 13 points from Joslyn Nicholson (/Cary-Grove). The Hawks' defense frustrated Madison (20-6, 11-3 N4C) for most of the first half, as the WolfPack shot just 27 percent (10-of-37) for the half.
In the first part of the second half, the Hawks kept it close and trailed 40-33 with 12:32 left after a Kim Herzog (/Buffalo Grove). Madison, however, responded with a 16-2 run in the next five minutes to take a commanding 56-35 lead. The WolfPack shot 50 percent (18-of-36) in the second half and limited the Hawks to 25.9 percent shooting (7-of-27).
Nicholson led the Hawks with 17 points. Herzog chipped in nine points, and Winkler added eight. For Madison, Sydney Harms scored 17 points, and Jenna Endres had 14.
Harper has drawn the #5 seed and opens postseason play with the Region IV Quarterfinals on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 5 PM at #4 seed Joliet Junior College (20-10). The winner of that game will move on to face #1 seed Rock Valley College (22-7) in the Region IV Semifinals on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 1 PM on the campus of Joliet Junior College.
